Salons

HOST A NEW PARISH SALON with co-author PAUL SPARKS

A New Parish Salon is about gathering the stories, conversations, and connections that will grow the fabric of love and care in your neighborhood and across the region. It’s about catalyzing a new imagination for joining the movement of God in the everyday life of the parish. For Booking Inquiries email us at: paul@parishcollective.org

The best format in these settings usually includes 2-3 short talks (10-15min) and 2-3 conversations (2 in small clusters and 1 large group or Q&A depending on the audience size etc).  A large whiteboard or paperboard is used if at all possible.

The narrative flow for the event begins with introductions and usually covers some of the following:

  • Discovering the way God is at work in the local in profoundly unseen and under-explored ways around the world.

  • Exploring why the church needs to take “place” and “shared life” seriously and the profound reasons our context mandates a new parish.

  • Learning how to be a church that is fully embedded in the everyday life of the parish (economy, civic, education, environment, etc)

  • Offering practical lenses that will help practitioners discern what to do in their context without copying a ten-step plan from experts.

One of the most unique and meaningful aspects of our presentations is when the group is able to practice trying on the lenses and dreaming of what is possible in their own places. After hearing many stories, and sparking from the imagination of others in the group, they begin trying on the lenses themselves and drawing forth a multitude of new ideas for their own context. It is usually a time of explosive possibility and hope.

Help convene neighborhood churches and parish practitioners from your area and inspire them with practical ways to grow the love and care in their neighborhood and together across the city!
